An idyllic location

At an idyllic location in the Frisian town of Terherne stands a thatch-roofed traditional farmhouse build in 1800 on the waterfront called d'Oude Herbergh (The Old Tavern). Terherne is widely known as Kameleondorp (Chameleon Village), where the twins Hielke and Sietse Klinkhamer from the famous Dutch Chameleon book series go on exciting maritime adventures in their boat, the Chameleon. It is the perfect location for such adventure, as the village is nearly entirely surrounded by water and so is d'Oude Herbergh. The Terherne pools and the Sneekermeer lake.
A family reunion or holding a training session
Whether you're travelling solo or together with others, celebrating a family reunion or holding a training session with your company, the d'Oude Herbergh is the place to be. Enjoy the Frisian countryside and spend a night in one of our stylishly decorated rooms. In the morning, indulge in our lavish - and notably fresh - Frisian breakfast. We aim to make your vacation an unforgettable one.
Exploring the beautiful surrounding waters and land

The d'Oude Herbergh is the perfect starting point for exploring the beautiful surrounding waters and land. Step on board a genuine competition skūtsje or an authentic farming boat. Rent an open sailboat or motorised sloop and sail the Frisian lakes. Experience the peace and quiet of canoeing. Landlubbers can explore the surroundings by bicycle or on foot on one of the many lovely walking and bicycling routes in the area. If you prefer crowds, the large towns of Joure, Grou and Sneek are close by. However you choose to spend your day, the rest of your time can be spent relaxing on our terrace overlooking the water.
